Gracies Attend Charity Fundraiser
John Churton Collins, a British critic and journalist, said, “In prosperity, our friends know us; in adversity, we know our friends.
On Saturday, June 11th Frankin County resident, Sid Archibald and his family knew their friends. They all banned together for a day of festivities that included a corn hole tournament, meet and greet with CACF members Royce and Khonry Gracie, great food, and a raffle of donated items that would help carry them through their latest struggle.
The Gracies have long been determined warriors inside the ring and outside, advocating whenever possible for persistence though challenges and good mental health. They were on hand Saturday representing The Foundation at the Preston City Park, visiting with attending youth, the family, their friends, and fitting right in.
From the event’s Facebook post we learned the details of Sid’s accident, “On April 2nd, Sid was seriously injured in an accident on a horse heading to his best friend’s funeral. While mounting the horse, the horse reacted causing Sid’s body to lose balance, hit the horn of the saddle. The force fractured his pelvis, hips and ruptured his bladder completely. Transported by ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital. There he underwent 4 surgeries and spent 12 days. After 5 days he was transported back with a severe blood infection, spent several days while They performed another procedure attempting to prevent more infections. Upon our return home within seven days he begin feeling similar to how he felt prior to the last transport. Once again Chantel took him to the ER. Home recovery required a hospital bed or a wheelchair as he could not bear weight. This emergency visit landed him at the University of Utah with another bad infection. 9 Weeks have passed since the initial accident. There he spent 7 days and underwent 2 surgeries. 1 of the surgeries was to remove the catheter and to place it super pubic. A week of healing the OK to start walking a little with a walker before released from the hospital. They have been home 10 days and reported improvement each day. He is set to go down on the 22nd of June we’re his medical team will decide upon the need for another bladder reconstruction. At this point they said they’re just taking it a day at a time and thankful for small improvements. His wife said the day that he was able to take a few steps to his truck and drive to the pharmacy to pick up his own antibiotic is a feeling she can’t even explain watching him drive off. She could tell he felt like 1 million bucks just to be able to have a bit of independence back. His wife has been by his side the entire time, his 4 children have done everything they can to support each other to their last day of school, took good care of their dad’s hound dogs. Sid is a loved, husband, father, provider, friend, and community jewel. He has been flooded with calls and service acts.”
Royce is a deputized member with the Franklin County Sheriff, the county where the Archibald’s live. The Gracies were on their way to Wyoming to take part in the Sig Hunter Games, heard about the event, extended their trip, and volunteered to drive over and help wherever they could.
The event organizer and friend of Sid’s, Jut Campbell, reported they were able to raise a combined total of $20,000 for the family.
